Netronome Systems, a private, venture-capital-based firm, was founded in 2003 by a team of individuals with solid backgrounds in networking, communications, security, voice and video applications, and high-performance computing.

Netronome recognized a growing divide in high-speed networking communications between the throughput of the underlying Ethernet and IP network (L2-L3) and the intelligent computing locations that provided flow processing (L4-L7) for an increasing number of network and security applications. While both of these communications segments have grown in leaps and bounds, they continue to coexist in the same networks, but in isolation. Unified solutions for intelligent and flexible L2-L7 packet processing have failed to keep pace with the changes in network throughput and traffic complexity.

Netronome has set out to bridge advances in high-speed network computing at 10 Gbps and beyond with the evolution taking place in open, standard computing environments based on the Intel Architecture (IA), including multi-core processing and virtualization.

Netronome’s solution is the Open Appliance Architecture™ and includes a family of hardware- and software-based acceleration solutions that provide line-rate network flow processing, deep packet inspection and application acceleration.

Netronome has been shipping products since late 2006 and has customers in many industries including switching and routing, network and security appliances, test and measurement, government agencies and networks, universities and research programs, and system integrators.

Netronome is backed by industry-leading venture capital firms including 3i, Tudor Investments, Top Technology Ventures and Spinner Global Technology Fund.

Netronome is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with North American offices in San Jose, California and Boston, Massachusetts. Netronome has international operations in Centurion, South Africa; Cambridge, United Kingdom; Shenzhen and Hong Kong, China; and Penang, Malaysia.
