Santa Clara, CA. – March 10, 2015 – Netronome today announced it has submitted a draft specification to the Open Compute Project (OCP) for an Open Cloud Server (OCS) 10 and 40 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) programmable server adapter mezzanine card. The design dramatically improves data center server efficiency by offloading the virtual switch datapath used for server and network virtualization, and delivering application and tenant-level security using software defined networking (SDN).
Netronome will be showing the industry’s first 40GbE programmable server adapter for Open Cloud Server at the Open Compute Project Summit 2015 held on March 10-11 at the San Jose Convention center in San Jose, California in Booth D2 in the Grand Ballroom. The company will discuss how such adapters improve data center economics and enhance data center operator control.
OCP is a rapidly growing community of engineers around the world whose mission is to design and enable the delivery of the most efficient server, storage and data center hardware designs for scalable computing. Programmable server adapters from Netronome enable data center operators to gain more control over network operations and feature rollouts, and deploy fewer servers while increasing application performance and security.
Netronome’s unique coprocessor architecture can be used in x86 or ARM64-based compute or service nodes to enable heterogeneous computing to scale efficiently and address the burgeoning cost implications of Moore’s law stalling. This scaling is critical as the transition to SDN, network functions virtualization (NFV), higher bandwidth, and the need for increased security requirements continue to accelerate and consume more expensive CPU cycles and power.
About OCP
The Open Compute Project Foundation is a 501(c)6 organization which was founded in 2011 by Facebook, Intel, Rackspace, Goldman Sachs and Andy Bechtolsheim. Our mission is to apply the benefits of open source software to hardware and rapidly increase the pace of innovation to hardware design and engineering in, near or around data center technologies.
